Much like the rest of Garmin, they throw a bunch of data at you but don't really offer any training guidance unless you spring for the top of the line models. Garmin sleep tracking isn't good, but it's not that bad otherwise. Sometimes, I get up in middle of the night and walk to the bathroom and Garmin will still tell me the next morning that I was asleep the entire night. I wake up frequently throughout the night and Fitbit is dead on on when I wake up in middle of the night. I would rate Fitbit's as among the best in the industry in terms of sleep tracking. Sleep trackers use whatever algorithm their company came up with to "guess" what sleep stage based on what the various sensors on the sleep tracking is reporting. First, no consumer sleep tracker "knows" what sleep stage you're in - the only way to detect what sleep phase you're in is by measuring brain waves. ![]() Just for context - I've struggled with sleep issues since I was a teen so I've tried various sleep trackers out there. I've heard good things about the Oura ring, but I can't speak from experience. It really doesn't track sleep well enough to give valid feedback on your sleep hacks.ĭreem is the only device that is super accurate tracking your sleep, but it's $500. I've been able to use it to improve my sleep and try out a wide variety of sleep hacks. In theory Garmin has a lot of compelling features but they're all poorly implemented: body battery - terrible, stress tracking - terrible, sleep tracking - terrible.įitbit sleep score & sleep tracking correlates very, very closely with how I subjectively feel. Basically all my bad nights of sleep show up as a full night of sleep with lots of REM and deep sleep, it's garbage. If I lay awake in bed for 2 hours and then get up, eat, read and go back to bed, Garmin will STILL say I was asleep the entire time. If I lay awake in bed for 2 hours, Garmin will still say 0 awake minutes. Fitbit is not only the best, it's the only one that's useful for sleep tracking. I have the Fitbit, Garmin Vivoactive, and SleepOn. ![]()
